5 Things to Expect on your First Recreational Dispensary Visit

Okay look… so I know going to a dispensary can be scary. I get scared of everything so I totally understand, that’s why I thought it would be kind of great of me to help you through your first Dispensary visit. Here are the 5 things to expect when visiting a dispensary for the first time.

Number 1… and this is really important, not every experience is going to be a good one especially if you are sensitive and a nervous person like myself!

What I mean by this is, Dispensary staff come in all shapes, sizes and attitudes. Some of them smoke on the job and who can blame them I would too, but you may encounter a “zoned out” staff member. In those cases you’re probably going to need to know what you want because they’re not going to help you.

Number two… What to buy???  Now this part can be intimidating, there are colorful jars, packets, papers etc so much to look at , where do you start? For a newbie I would either go with an edible like; gummies or for weed purposes; bud (flower) if you want  to smoke or bong it. There are oils, but I have not heard any thing good nor have I had any experience with it, so I’m not gonna go there. Products like concentrates are usually purchased by experienced users so forget that too! For this purpose, I am just going to stick with Flowers & Edibles

For Edibles, the high takes time as your body goes through the digestion process. You will feel the high come on gradually, constantly questioning yourself if it is working and just dependant on the THC (potency) levels, it may be more of a mellow buzz. For me I feel it’s a bit of BS to definitively say each edible contains this much THC — yeah right!! So just take that information lightly.

Flowers are divided into three different categories. It depends on what kind of high you are looking for. There is; Sativa(functional, creative) Hybrid (body/ mind buzz but still functional) and my favorite; Indica (where the term stoned comes from) Usually in dispensaries, you will find hybrids. If unsure Staff should be able to tell you what the ratio of Sativa to Indica is but in my opinion, if it looks good buy it.

Number three… what you should be looking for when buying weed…the fun part! Side note: you will need to know what your budget is before going in. With this information, staff will be able to tell you what bud is available in your price range. It’s okay to tell them you’re a newbie and bonus sometimes they may give you a freebie (pre-rolled joint).

What to look for when picking your bud; you want to see white crystals and a beautiful bright green with subtle brown threads. They might give you small or big buds. In my opinion, it makes no difference. When you become more comfortable with choosing buds, pay closer attention to the stem to bud ratio and if the bud looks too leafy- you don’t want that.

They might give you the jar to smell. If the smell hits you in your jowls and gets you salivating, you know you got something good. The staff will be able to help you too, like I said before it is just dependent on the person.

Number four…Quantity.. how much to buy?.. annoying but after a while you get it! Sort of! Go with grams don’t worry about quarters, half quarters or eighths but that of course, depends on your budget!  Below is in my experience the average for quantity, the better bud; the more expensive.

Half quarter/ 1/8 ( 3.5g) –$20-40

Quarter (7g) — $40 – 70

Each gram will roll 3 good size joints

Number five …lastly…payment and receiving your goodies

They usually accept debit/ credit card and if not they usually have a cash machine available… If buying on a Reserve make sure you have cash!

Staff will dispense in front of you on a scale to show you they are not scamming you or they may have pre-determined baggies/ pill tubes, then you just gotta trust them!

Go online and search dispensaries around you, do a bit of research and find a dispensary near you. The Dispensary will most likely have some sort of online presence – Facebook or Website, Google might even have some reviews. It’s worth it to find out how others’ experiences went!

It’s okay to be afraid but don’t let that deter you, go anyways!! They are providing a service, don’t let intimidation keep you from your high! And if you don’t like your experience there are more dispensaries popping up all the time. You will find one you like or if all else fails Canada delivers!!!…but that’s for the next blog… Good Luck and Be Strong!!
